Jai Gangaajal review

Jai Gangaajal Review: Priyanka Chopra Shines in Prakash Jha's Crime Drama | Sachit Murthy I have to say, the more I watch Priyanka Chopra, the more I am amazed by her versatility. From the tense thriller of Quantico , to period drama Kashibai , to the bold Abha Mathur in Jai Gangaajal , she continues to evolve as an actress who commands attention. In Jai Gangaajal , Priyanka delivers a rock-solid performance. Her portrayal of Abha Mathur, a determined and incorruptible IPS officer in a small North Indian town, is nuanced and powerful. She embodies authority, empathy, and grit effortlessly. Every dialogue, every stare, every small gesture feels authentic and commanding. She is truly the star of this movie. Now, the movie itself – Prakash Jha’s direction is precise and competent. The story follows a familiar Bollywood crime drama template: rural corruption, goons in cahoots with some officials, a good cop, and a climactic defeat of the villain. Pred...

Review of 'The Shining'

The Shining Review: Stanley Kubrick's Classic Horror | Sachit Murthy I sat down to watch The Shining last night with high expectations. Over the years, I had read countless reviews praising Stanley Kubrick’s mastery — a chilling psychological horror, a mesmerizing performance by Jack Nicholson, and a film that redefined the genre. Yet, my own experience left me conflicted. To begin with, the atmosphere Kubrick creates is undeniably superb. The Overlook Hotel is a character in itself — isolated, grandiose, and suffused with an uncanny tension that keeps you on edge. The tracking shots, the long corridors, the mirrors reflecting an unsettling reality — these visuals are genius. You cannot deny Kubrick’s eye for framing, lighting, and composition. Every shot is painstakingly crafted, and for anyone who appreciates cinematic precision, this is pure joy. Jack Nicholson’s Jack Torrance is iconic. His descent from a frustrated writer into madness is hau...

Uberpool

I just signed up as a driver partner for Uberpool. Not sure if it's legal for private cars to accept paid rides, but I want to see how this goes. My first drive today with Uberpool, but no co-riders unfortunately. But if this picks up, hopefully some strain on the traffic will reduce. Will post my experiences on future posts.

Sachit Murthy — Writing on Cinema, Cricket, Travel, and Life in India

This blog brings together essays, reviews, and observations on cinema, sport, travel, and everyday life in India. It moves between detailed writing on Indian and world cinema, reflections on cricket as culture and memory, travel notes from cities and small towns, and personal pieces shaped by living and working in contemporary India. Film writing on the blog ranges from close readings of classic and modern films to broader reflections on performance, narrative, and form. Cricket appears not as statistics or news, but as lived experience — a shared language of time, obsession, and belonging. Travel pieces pay attention to place, atmosphere, and the small details that define movement and return. Underlying these varied subjects is a consistent interest in observation: how people speak, perform, remember, and negotiate their inner and public lives. The author’s background as a stage and screen actor, writer, and voice artist informs the attention to rhythm, silence, and point of view across the writing. The blog is intended for readers who enjoy reflective, unhurried writing — pieces that sit somewhere between criticism, travelogue, and personal essay.
